In an election that is so important to so many people that we have seen more registered voters than ever before, I was able to see in person both major candidates for President of the United States of America. It was a long day filled with thousands of people and no distractions from the upcoming election.

Driving up to New Mexico State Fair Grounds, a small sign on this nearly deserted street pointed me in the direction of the first campaign. It Said "Women for McCain" with an arrow pointing into the parking lot. As i turned the corner a couple volunteers pointed me into nearly empty parking lot. We quickly parked our car and walked fifty yards towards a line.

As we walked my good friend Robert gave me a hug and we received a dirty look from a man walking the other way. After that I was a bit astounded and asked my buddy to hold my hand. I was curious to the reactions of the people who were there, like me, to see what this man had to say. I Wonder what would happen if two women held hands, or even kissed.

As we walked towards the back of the line excited to see a man who is running to be the leader of my country, a woman stood out of line and yelled at us. "Go McCain!" she yelled. We cheered back. "You don't belong here! You look Different!," she said. I couldn't believe my ears. Really? Did She really say that??

As we walked there were a few other people who didn't look like they 'belonged' being interviewed. "Why did you come out to see McCain speak today?" a woman with a microphone probed.

One of the member quickly replied, "We just came out to see the circus."

I laughed as we kept walking the short block to the back of the line. When we got there the line was beginning to cross the street. Quickly a golf cart appeared almost out of nowhere. The man driving yelled out, "Can yall please move this line around the corner to avoid getting in the street. These flea market folk dont wait for nobody." I guess in this economy someone looking for a deal is willing to run you over if you are in the way.

As the line began to move someone came by with a cart selling pins for a dollar. My friends want ed to buy one and said i should too but i said i had no money. Billah decided i needed to have a 'I Heart Sarah Palin' button and got me one.

We got in and the atmosphere was relaxed. Lots of space to wander around between the few who could wake up early enough to hear what was going to be said. only one person had a cup of coffee and she was willing to share with me when i asked.

After we got in propaganda was quickly handed to us.

uh, yeah...

So that pretty much set the tone of the event.

It started with the pledge of allegiance. Than a woman came out, and, led us again in the pledge. I suppose they could have used some better organizing. As different Republicans approached the microphone and talked about the excitement of an election, the anticipation began to really begin to build.

McCain came out started the show. I reached my hand out to get a hand shake but he was quickly moving to get up on stage and tell the people what they want to hear.

First a Senator from South Carolina spoke about how he supports McCain. He mentioned Joe the plumber, and the said, "What about Joe the Biden?" the crowd quick to boo was stopped, perhaps the only time stopped during a boo, to say, "No, We like Joe the Biden. He gives us ammo. Twice now he has said that within six months the world will test Obama and we will see a International disaster." This South Carolina Senator was implying that an attack would happen to either America or Obama himself if Obama was elected. The crowd Cheered loud. I felt sick.

Does the American people believe that only Barack Obama would be tested during his term? I'm pretty sure anyone elected would be equally tested. I thought that was the purpose of an election. We should vote in the person who can handle the worst case scenario the best. If John McCain doesnt doesn't think he'll be tested than he hasn't seriously considered what it takes to be president. What will happen when his emergency happens? run and hide?

At the beginning of McCains speech to us, his eager listeners, he mentioned politely what he wants to do.

"I will fix the economy, because I know how! I will win this war so that our soldiers can come back with respect, because i know how!"

John McCain knows how but wouldn't give it away. It is a secret and if he gets elected we will see what's in his Pandoras Box.

"If I win this election, excuse me, WHEN I win this election"

The crowd had this sense of bitterness that maybe due to the fact that only one demographic was here is support (the old white crowd) and it wasn't even the entire demographic. I wondered where everyone was. I heard McCains rallies were small but this was very small.

McCain quickly started mentioning Obama in a dark light. Not only was he saying he is not capable of leading but he is a joke of a leader. He would get the crowd booing than say more and more until the entire crowd was a pit of angry vindictive people.

"Obama Says he wants to spread the wealth. Other countries have tried spreading the wealth, it is not American!" Seemed to be a comparison to the extreme left, communism and socialism. The crowd around me apparently agreed and yelled socialist.

I continued to feel sick until it was over and i was able to leave.

Giving up the Car for a bike in the Rio Grande Valley

It Was a passion for moving and a desire to do something better for myself and the world that led me to hit the road on bicycle. Okay my car died and I did not want to buy a new one with what it costs to fill a tank. The Season was right for me to start this endeavor. with warm mornings I began to commute to work and back a few miles a day. Soon school started and I needed to go furthur. So I made some goals of borrowing a car as little as possible and it wasn't long before I was able to call myself a biker and not feel like a liar. This here is the blog of my adventures in the Rio Grande Valley, commuting between Rio Rancho and Abluquerque New Mexico. What is happening that makes life better, worse or just weirder for me and my bicycle.

I dont know a whole lot about biking (infact I dont even know what kind of bike I ride!!!???) and the community around it. So I'll do my best to figure it out and talk about it here.

Peace For Now
